Story Notes:
Disclaimer: Lee, Amanda, Billy, Francine, Fred and the other characters mentioned are NOT mine, but Shoot the Moon’s and WB’s.
I fudged the facts on Lee and Amanda just a little to fit the song.
I was going for a humorous/parody/touching sentiment. If it didn’t turn out that way, I blame Lee…he made me write it.
It doesn’t all rhyme, but I tried.
If you don’t know the song, the original lyrics are attached to the end of this. Nuff said, enjoy.
Type: Filk song, relating parts of Lee and Amanda’s relationship.

Chapter 1 by Rangerbaldwin
Don’t Take Amanda
Lee’s boss Billy sent him on a mission
When he was 31 years old.
Amanda helped him at the train station;
Lee got beat to a pulp.
When Mister Melrose heard
He just looked down and smiled
Said, "She helped you out of a bind
Lee, I know for your partner, you don’t want her,
But one day you’ll change your mind."
And Lee said,
"Take Francine Desmond,
Take Fred Fielder,
Take any old John Doe,
Take any agent that you want as
Long as she’s a no-go.
Take any guy who knows bombs.
But please…
Not the suburban Mom."
Same old agent, same housewife
Three years down the road…
Lee was switching out his luggage,
A bomb might have blown.
Adi Birol came and pulled a gun,
Took Amanda by the arm,
Said, "You could try and find her, but
She may come to harm."
And Lee said, "Take my money, Take my ISP
Take my credit cards. Here’s the watch my uncle gave me
Here’s the key to my ‘Vette.
Adi, I’ll give you your way
But please…
Don’t hurt my fiancée.
Same old agent, same housewife,
One year down the road…
Honeymoon in California
And she says," What a great place to go."
Doctor says, "She’s shot pretty bad,
And you’ll have to leave
Cuz her vitals are fading fast and
Lee hit his knees.
And then he prayed,
"Take the very breath you gave me,
Take the heart from my chest.
I’ll gladly take her place if you’ll let me
Make this my last request.
Take me out of this life.
God, please…
Don’t take my wife."
Lee and Amanda
Out on a mission
They’ll grow gray and old…
ORIGINAL LYRICS
Don’t Take the Girl
Sung by Tim McGraw
Johnny’s daddy was taking him fishing
When he was 8 years old
A little girl came through the front gate
Holding a fishing pole.
His dad looked down and smiled,
Said, "We can’t leave her behind
Son I know you don’t want her to go
But on day you’ll change your mind."
And Johnny said,
"Take Jimmy Johnson,
Take Tommy Thompson
Take my best friend, Bo
Take anybody that you want as
Long as she don’t go
Take any boy in the world
But please
Don’t take the girl."
Same old boy, same sweet girl,
Ten years down the road…
He held her tight and kissed her lips in
Front of the picture show
Stranger came and pulled a gun
Grabbed her by the arm
Said, "If you do what I tell you to there
Won’t be any harm."
And Johnny said," Take my money, Take my wallet
Take my credit cards. Here’s the watch that my grandpa gave me.
Here’s the key to my car.
Mister, give you the world
But please
Don’t take the girl."
Same old boy, same sweet girl
Five years down the road.
There’s gonna be a little one
And she says," It’s time to go."
Doctor says, "The baby’s fine, but
You’ll have to leave,
Cuz his momma’s fading fast and
Johnny hit his knees.
And then he prayed,
"Take the very breath you gave me
Take the heart from my chest
I’ll gladly take her place if you’ll let me
Make this my last request
Take me out of this world
God, please,
Don’t take the girl."
Johnny’s daddy was taking him fishing
When he was 8 years old…
